Break out your chunky sweaters and slow cookers: Fall is officially here! And what better way to welcome the new season than with festive (but not cheesy) decorations and an equally autumnal color palette?

Greens, reds, oranges, and browns have been synonymous with autumn for as long as we can remember, but a new crop of earthy shades— think Sherwin Williams’ 2019 Color of the Year —are making this color palette all the more covetable. But that doesn’t mean you need to paint your walls “Cavern Clay” to achieve a warm, inviting, fall-friendly vibe. Below, six cool ways to bring fall’s favorite colors to your space:

1. What’s Cookin’, Good Lookin’?

Most people overlook the kitchen backsplash when decorating their home, but the truth is that it’s a great place to experiment with fall-friendly colors. For example, the orange arabesque tiles in the Jungalow’s studio will look good year-round. If you want to kick things up a notch, paint your walls to match! The Jungalow paired its backsplash with Portola Paints’ “El Coyote.”

Speaking of backsplashes, here are 14 styles you’re bound to love.

2. Mix and Match

For a room that packs a punch, use one autumnal accent color in a variety of prints. “The dark brown and black woven grasscloth envelops you, while also providing a great backdrop for artwork, the rich red glass-framed vintage mirror, and the antique Moroccan carpet,” shares Alexandra Pappas, the interior designer behind this Gramercy Park space . “Fortuny fabric on this mid-century modern chair is an unexpected twist.”

3. Color Theory

We love warm fall colors as much as the next person, but they can look cheesy when clumped together. Keep your reds, oranges, and browns looking fresh year-round by styling them with their respective complementary colors. Brooklyn firm WORKSTEAD hit the nail on the head with this orange and blue pairing.

4. Golden Age

No, earthy tones aren’t only appropriate for rustic homes. In their Parisian apartment , Libby Gravatt and Tim Caws paired their earth toned pieces with metallic accents, giving the space a modern, sophisticated flair.

5. Once on This Island

There’s nothing that a fresh coat of paint can’t fix. But if you don’t want to repaint your entire room, start off with something small. We love this mossy green island, courtesy of Katharine Pooley .

6. Autumnal Art

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a well-curated gallery wall will do all the talking. Editing your gallery wall to an earthy color palette, as seen in this Nashville house tour , will keep your space looking warm and totally Instagrammable.
