Not all bathrooms are created equal, and that’s fine by us. Some may see a small bathroom as a storage nightmare, but we see it as a challenge. Here are nine genius DIY bathrooms that prove no storage situation, or lack there of, can’t be tackled.

Here, Rebecca Williams shows us how her boho maximalist home in Western Australia maximizes storage. Rebecca uses unoccupied wall space to store her toiletries on hanging shelves and a hanging planter repurposed as a storage basket (genius!) for easy access above the sink. Necklaces are draped over hooks and mirrors to take advantage of all open walls.

In a bright and textured Michigan house , homeowners Lauren and Chad also utilize wall space by hanging jewelry on hooks wherever possible. A wall-mounted cabinet above the toilet and a slim floor rack are squeezed into the additional open space, leaving no space unused. Hanging planters bring in greenery without taking up valuable counter and toilet top real estate.

This teeny tiny bathroom in Jaimee and David’s light and simple Scandinavian-inspired house is minimal in style with maximum efficiency. A hanging toiletry basket is tacked on the end of a usable towel bar while the wall space above the toilet is lined with shelves and baskets for out-of-sight-storage.

Ana & Patrick’s bright and organic California casual apartment boasts a bright and airy bathroom that feels much bigger than it is. The couple has utilized vertical space with a narrow floor-to-ceiling ladder shelf in white, which provides optimal storage without overwhelming the space. A towel hook on the wall allows used towels to dry and a bright and cheerful color palette keep everything looking fresh (our preferred bathroom state).

In this “nostalgic bohemian” Nashville home , homeowners Jordan and Ryan hang a wire basket above the toilet for towel storage as a makeshift linen closet. A vintage furniture piece that fits perfectly in the small open space adjacent provides additional storage and counter space. As is pertinent in storage-efficient bathrooms, unused real estate, like the back of the toilet and the window sill, are used to stick additional bathroom necessities.

Gail & Chile’s “dead grandmother” style teaches us that a good corner shelf should never be discounted. Glass containers display their contents and help contain (go figure) items without a proper home.

This clean vintage bathroom in Grainne & Ian’s character-filled home in Edinburgh utilizes vertical space with a high shelf that spans the width of the bathroom. It’s not a bad idea to reserve this shelf for your prettiest bottles and pieces, as they’re displayed so prominently.

What the bathroom in this bright and colorful West Hollywood home lacks in space it makes up for in character. Unfortunately, character doesn’t hold your toiletries. Homeowner Samrin has cleverly repurposed a multi-tiered serving tray as a convenient place to house her toiletries and hand towels. Bonus storage solution: a basket with rolled up towels is never a bad idea: it’s easy to move around and looks super stylish to boot.

As these clever homeowners have proven, tiny bathrooms are far from inferior. By implementing smart and efficient solutions, awkward and small spaces can also be functional and beautiful, and represent the unique style of those who do their business there on the regular (no pun intended).
